Marlene Blumer Obituary

Our strong, independent, feisty and loving mom, Marlene Carol Blumer, passed away peacefully April 11, 2016, in Fort Collins, Colo. She was 75 years young and handled living with Alzheimer's with laughter, and with as much dignity that the disease allows.
She was born on October 23, 1940 and is preceded in death by her parents, Leopold and Hermina Kaprus. She graduated high school in Pittsburgh Penn. On November 24, 1964 she married our dad, Paul Blumer, who also preceded her in death. They started their family in Pittsburgh, Penn. and moved to Medford in 1976, making it their forever home.
Our mom worked as an administrative assistant at Medford Senior High School and Southern Oregon University in the School of Business, before retiring. She loved the ocean as well as animals and always gave love to any four-legged furball she came across. She also loved music and was still singing along to her favorite tunes. Most of all, she loved her family.
She is survived by one son, Jason (Elizabeth) Blumer of Highland Park Ill.; one daughter, Shannon (Mike) Atkinson of Coto de Caza, Calif., one sister, Sharon Rak of Shreveport, La.; and seven adoring grandchildren, Matthew Blumer, Caroline Blumer, Nicholas Blumer, Luke Atkinson, Miles Atkinson, Van Atkinson, and Stone Atkinson.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Conger Morris in Medford. A Funeral Mass celebrating our mom will be at 9:30 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2016 at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, Central Point. A private interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, our family asks that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of our mom.
