Rachael Sargenti Obituary

Rachael Sargenti

January 20, 1925 - October 13, 2019

With a heart full of love for her family and a life well lived, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend, Rachael rejoined her beloved husband Joseph on Sunday evening, the 13th of October. She was 94 years old, but her age belied a young at heart spirit.

Born in San Francisco to Sam and Dora Hazen, Rachael was the fourth of seven children. She was a graduate of Commerce High School near her Clipper Street home where she excelled in all her studies.

At 20 years old, just before the war ended in September 1945, she met her Marine Corps husband, Joe, and shared a 64-year marriage with him until his passing in November of 2010. Her life with Joe and raising her family was her passion. Rachael was a loving wife and mother, doting grand and great grandmother who took enormous pride in her family. Her smile was contagious and wherever she lived she made friends easily and took joy in sharing life's lessons learned with those who were troubled or needed a boost.

Rachael appreciated learning, loved to read and had a curious mind. After moving from Santa Clara, CA to Ashland, OR in 1966, she became the assistant to the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Southern Oregon College and found fulfillment in counselling students on how to maximize their college academic experience. Years later after her retirement, she always delighted when those students would recognize and thank her for her caring guidance.

Rachel is survived by her three children, Paul (Vicki), Karen (Ladd-RIP), and Gary (Joanne); her grandchildren Michael, Scot (Shannon), Leslie (Bobby), Kylee (Kieran), Matthew, and Brian; her great grandchildren Hailee, Brady, Alyssa, Mason, and Mia. She was preceded in death by her six brothers and sisters.

Rachael will be blessed to share eternity with her husband at the Veteran's Cemetery in Eagle Point, Oregon.
