Forrest was born in Mt. Erie, Illinois in his grandparents home to George G. Lesher and Edna Yohe Lesher. He was raised and educated in Normal, Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in World War II. Following his service he attended Illinois State University where he received degrees, majoring in Geography, and met his future wife, Jean. They were married June 17, 1950. Additional graduate studies followed at the University of Illinois, McGill University, and the University of Iowa. He then joined the geography department faculty at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and later at Southern Oregon State College Forrest was a charter member of the Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol and a National Ski Patrol member. He enjoyed skiing, golf, travel, and observing wildlife.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George Y. Lesher and Robert E. Lesher.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Jean, and nieces, Mary Dokes, Janet Kaneda, Susan McAnneny, Roberta Butterfield and nephew, Richard Lesher.
He will be deeply missed.
