Obituary Bill HollingsworthBill Hollingsworth
March 31, 1934 September 28, 2022 Bill Hollingsworth, 88, passed away September 28, 2022 in Arizona.
Bill was born March 31, 1934, in Idaho, the last of six children born to Hilton and Winifred Hollingsworth. He moved to Ashland in 1936. Bill had five older sisters that spoiled him rotten.
Bill attended Ashland public schools while growing up and was active in sports. He spent one year at Hoopa (Calif.) High School while his father was building a sawmill there. He was a star track and basketball player in high school and college. Bill is in the Southern Oregon University Sports Hall of Fame and held many basketball records including the all-time scoring record until recent years. He joined the Army in 1954 and served in France where he also played basketball for the armed forces in Europe. Bill was an avid bowler for most of his life and had a perfect 300 game during league play when he was 71 years old.
Bill married Anne Winter in 1958, and together they had three sons. They later divorced but remained good friends. Bill built houses and apartments, ran the bowling alley in Ashland, and worked as a purchasing agent at Southern Oregon University. In 1982, he married Suzi Vincent, who survives him. He retired in 1995 and discovered a love of baking and feeding people. For years, he made an abundance of sweet goodies each Sunday which were served at Simple Faith Fellowship. Bill loved his Lord Jesus Christ even more than he loved baking.
Bill remained close to his Ashland High School classmates and organized a golf reunion at Shastina Golf Course which they held for 14 years.
Bill and Suzi enjoyed visiting Tucson, Arizona and purchased a “park model” in 2001. They began spending their winters there, where Bill’s blackberry lush dessert became famous among the park folks. He was very active in Tucson, swimming, lifting weights, and walking 4 miles nearly every day.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Suzi; sons, Scott (Christine); David (Sandy); and Kyle (Heidi); and by his grandchildren Lauren, Dawson, and Philip.
