John R. “Rod” StevensThe memorial service for John Rodney “Rod” Stevens, 75, of Ashland, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church, Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Delgarno. Mr. Stevens died November 2, 2005 in Coos Bay, Oregon.
Mr. Stevens was born December 18, 1929 in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of John and Azalea Stevens and was educated at the Citadel in Charleston, S. C. On November 25, 1954 in Wiesbaden, Germany, he married the former Ellen Taylor, who preceded him in death.
Rod was a civil engineer with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers for 20 years and after moving to Ashland in 1976 was the Director of the physical plant at Southern Oregon University.
He enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting, and genealogy. He was a member of the Citadel Alumni, Shakespeare Festival Board of Directors, the Ashland First Presbyterian Church, and the Friday Morning Board Meeting.
Surviving are two daughters, Laura Williamson of Lake Oswego, and Libby Hughes of North Bend; one son, John R. Stevens, Jr. of Portland; his mother, Azalea Stevens of Charleston, S. C.; and five grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, John A. Stevens.
