Emily L. Hexter dies July 9
Emily L. Hexter Emily L. Hexter, 72, a 15-year resident of Ashland, died Sunday, July 9, in Medford following a stroke. Her family was with her at the time of her death. She was retired from her position as assistant to the director of the Center for Shakespeare Studies at SOU. Born in Dallas, Tex., on June 24, 1934, she was the daughter of Lewis and Blanche Lefkowitz. She graduated from Goucher College in Towson, Md., with a B. A. in English literature in 1955 and was a lifelong learner. Survivors include three children, Holly Hexter of Washington, D. C.; Louis J. Hexter of Mill Valley, Calif.; Victoria Hexter Normandeau of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Dr. Lewis B Lefkowitz Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, and a number of nephews and cousins. A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 12 at Carpenter Hall, 15 S. Pioneer St. in Ashland. Contributions in Emily’s name may be made to the Skouthern Oregon University Foundation Fund for Shakespeare Studies or to the American Lung Association.
