GORDON BRUCE WILSON

1923 to 2012

Gordon Bruce Wilson passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford, Ore.

Gordy, as he was known to family and friends, was a professor of education at Southern Oregon College from 1969 until 1985. Born February 19, 1923, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Albert and Wilma Wilson, Gordy grew up in Missouri and attended Drury College before enlisting in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

He married Maxine Henkins September 1, 1943, in Boise, Idaho, and after leaving the armed services in January 1946, pursued a career in education that included a Master's degree from Kansas State University and a Doctorate of Education from Stanford University.

Gordy was active in volunteer work at the Methodist Church in Ashland, Ore., and enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles, and was an avid sports fan.

Beloved as the "Clan Laird," he is survived by his wife, Maxine; brother, Hilton; children, Diana, Bruce, Craig, and Mark; as well as grandchildren, Jennifer, Alison, Christopher, Nadia, Micalah, and Alexi.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Methodist Church in Ashland at 2:00 p.m. Friends and colleagues are welcome to pay their respects.
